“We grow people”
Peggy Stamp, past TCPS trainer

TCPSO offers comprehensive training in psychodrama and sociometry techniques to enhance trainees’ skills in their chosen profession. This training is most often utilized by

  • Psychotherapist, counsellors, social workers, and other mental health professionals
  • Managers, Human Resource Professionals
  • Teachers & Educators
  • Lawyers, doctors and nurses.

This training helps professionals expand their skill set while staying within the scope of their profession. This training will organically involve personal growth opportunities, as well as focus on training.

The training is comprised of three levels of competency with each level consisting of the following four components:
-Core training workshops
-Elective workshops
-Required reading and videos
-Cumulative projects, supervision and self evaluation.

Three Levels of Training

The TCPSO training program to certification can be taken at one’s own pace. Some trainees choose to complete each level of certification in one year, while other’s take several years for each level. Each level increases the trainee’s competency to work independently in a group setting. Pricing depends on which workshops one chooses to take. There is a minimum number of hours for each level.

Level 1 – 250 hours – Psychodrama Assistant – graduates of this level will be able to adequately use several psychodramatic tools independently in their work, such as role reversal, and doubling. In addition, Level 1 trainees are encouraged to explore their own creativity and sponteneity while attending different trainings.

Level 2 – 265 hours – Associate Director – graduates of this level will be able to facilitate a complete group session, including directing a psychodrama under supervision. Level 2 trainees are encouraged to develop their own psychodramatic style with the guidance of their trainer.

Level 3 – 265 hours – Director of Psychodrama – graduates of this level have demonstrated a high level of group leadership and can work independently facilitating groups. Completion of this level awards the trainee a Director standing with TCPSO, a title which acknowledges the accomplishment of this high level of training. This level of training is equivelant to a Certified Practitioner from the American Board of Examiners.

Admission requirements

Individuals may become TCPSO trainees for a variety of reasons, including to expand their expertise in psychodrama and sociometry, work towards certification through the American Board of Directors of Psychodrama Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy, or to use the programme for enhanced personal growth.

The trainees can submit an application to the Training team for consideration.  TCPSO trainees must have some post-secondary education in a human services field and must undertake to use psychodrama within the scope of their practice.

Applicants with significant past psychodrama experience (over 250 workshop hours) can request application into level 2 or 3 of the TCPSO program. This would involve a review of hours and competencies with a TCPSO trainer.

The admission package should include the following.

You can apply by sending an email to our centre. We will guide you through the application process.

Once the admission package is received and it is determined that the trainee meets the program requirements, an admissions interview will be set up with at least one trainer to outline the program expectations and answer any questions the applicant has.
